My First Few Days in Riverside

Hello Friends and Family,

As I promised, I wanted to give you all a quick update on how I am doing here in Riverside, CA. I am staying at the lovely UCR extension center. Everything is in the building so I don’t have to go anywhere except to get Lunch and Dinner.  My roommate is from Spain and has told me a lot about the Spanish culture. I have come together with many of the fellow Canadians that are here at UCR with me. Our group has even welcome 2 very nice British girls.  They fit in quite well and their accents are adorable. I cannot get over how nice they are. Since I have been here since Sunday, I have already made my way to Costco and the mall as well. Riverside is a small town so there isn’t much to do here.

As for the academic portion, I am on Day 2 of learning and have so far covered the topics of Travel and the Tourism Industry, as well as Cross Cultural Perspectives. My lecture on Travel and the Tourism Industry was quite fascinating. Our instructor was very captivating and kept the class alive. I learned quite a bit about the different aspects of the tourism industry as well as things to consider when trying to capture any market.

The weather has been a dry heat and has been between 37 and 40 degrees. It’s actually not as bad as I thought. I just have to drink tons of water in a day. I went on a walk around the UCR campus this evening and it is huge. The campus pool and gym are beautiful and very high tech. We have a team building session on Friday, which I am excited about, as it will be held in the campuses outdoor recreation area.

I am actively making plans for the weekend to celebrate July 4th since I am in the USA. We are also trying to plan something for Canada day as there are 20 Canadians here.

That’s all from me for now. Xoxo
